Safer recruitment: where AI CV analysis must stop

By MyValidCV · · 2 min read

A teaching application can contain relevant classroom experience and still require substantial verification. A document comparison should support the evidence review, not blur it with safeguarding or identity checks. Establish these boundaries before staff use a combined dashboard, particularly when a prominent score could appear to answer questions it was never designed to answer.

Use the current safeguarding framework

The Department for Education’s Keeping children safe in education publication is the official starting point for schools and colleges in England. Check the version in force and the requirements relevant to the role with your safeguarding lead. Do not substitute a general article, a software checklist or an automated alignment report for that review. Other jurisdictions and settings may require a different framework.

Create separate evidence and verification columns

An assessment may record that a CV states a qualification or describes experience. A verification record should show whether an authorised person checked that claim, how and when. Keep the distinction visible in exports as well as on screen. Avoid a single green indicator that could be read as simultaneously confirming document alignment, identity, references and suitability to work with children.

Design the handover between reviewers

Document who can assess role evidence, who owns the required checks and who can authorise progression. Where an agency and a school share a process, agree the responsibilities and records exchanged. Use stable applicant references and concise handover notes rather than circulating unnecessary personal information. Flag unresolved matters explicitly instead of expecting the next person to infer them from an overall score.

Check messages and reporting language

Review invitation and outcome templates for overstatement. Do not tell an applicant that they have passed all checks if only a CV comparison has been completed. Similarly, avoid a client report that labels someone cleared when verification is pending. Build an exception route for missing evidence and make sure staff know how to pause progression without deleting the assessment history.
